What are they fighting over? Are they from differing tribes or the same one?

There are no weapons so I'd venture a guess they're from the same tribal peoples.

I'll say they're either fighting over the best portion of meat from a kill the men of the tribe made, or over a tall, strong, dark maned, masculine man. Who has rescued both of them at some point from neolithic beasts.

If this was a movie this would take place roughly around the climax of the film. While the two women fight, a great cataclysm starts to shake the earth and split the ground. A near by volcano erupts, causing a lava flow to rush enveloping a number of the tribe. The ground beneath the water turns to quicksand, and the red head gets caught in it; nearly dragging her rival in love with her but the dark haired woman shoves her away. Stunned, she stumbles back to shore and looks back to see her competition crying out for help, until she is swollowed by the soden earth. Running in search of her lover, the dark haired woman finds him gathering all that is left of the tribe and leads them to safety. After the cataclysmic event passes, the lead man and his woman, now without rival leave in search of a new home.
