Another one in the Age of Adventure collection, from the late nineties.  The bried was to have the group visit a museum whose curator and exhibits instantly conjured up the name H P Lovecraft.  Thos robably could have been better, but it has some good bits.

Thanks! I've been saying I'd like to do a more elaborate version of this, or something mighty like it, so watch out for that, one of these years!

I'm not so much a fan of Lovecraft or even his stories as I am a fan of the sort of things that seem to be derivative of the atmosphere or wild monsters; therefore, I rather like this drawing. This could be one of the special vaults in the Museum of Unnatural History located at my own knockoff of Miskatonic University that I call the Muscadine University. ;)

Ah, I think we're on the same page, Chicky.  I can't remember exactly, but I think your impression of this picture is pretty much what they asked me to convey.  For my part, I'm fascinated by that aspect of Americana that is truly Gothic and haunting.

I have friends who are big Lovecraft fans. They'd love this pic.

I hope they get to see it.  In the sixties, my big brother was always reading horror novels, and a lot of it was Lovecraft.  Later, I tried to read it, but for some reason, I couldn't get into his style, although I did read one of the books - a pity, because it seemed like just the kind of thing I wanted to enjoy.  I may go back to it one of these days.  I mean, I ought to like it, because apart from the imagery, I'm a 'fan' of what might be called American Gothic.  As for this picture, the good bits are let down by some poor and lazy drawing, and I feel I want to redo it, only properly.  It's on my little list!
